First of all, is autumn your favorite season? Why or why not? Definitely. I love the crisp feel of the air and the smell of fallen leaves. I love the change from hot summer temps to cool days and hear in the desert, cold, clear nights. Since I have spent a lot of my life in the deep South, where "spring" and "fall" don't really exist, I have always loved living in places where there are four distinct seasons, instead of "warm, hot, hotter, and ultra-hot"!
Is it ‘autumn’ or ‘fall’, to you? Fall.
What kind of weather does your area get during this season? Clear, sunny days (in the high 70's/low 80s right now), and clear, cold (down into the 50s) nights with low humidity 40-50%. It will get even dryer and colder as the season progresses, and temperature differential between day and night will get even larger.
Were you born in an autumn month? Yes, I was born in November.
Do you pay attention to any ‘fall fashions’? I love reading about fashion, but I don't wear the "latest" fashions by a long shot. I wear what I like, what fits, and what looks good on me. I have acceded to one fall fashion for this year--I painted my toenails a deep purple, which, I read somewhere, is one of this fall season's "fashionable" colors.
Which leaf color is your favorite? I love the gold of aspens--it looks so amazing against an otherwise evergreen mountainside.
Is it still fun to rake the leaves and jump in piles of them? Not so much, but I really enjoy seeing the kids do it.
When can you really tell that it’s autumn? Here in New Mexico, when you see the green chile roasters outside every store and on many of the roadsides.
Do you enjoy carving pumpkins? Not so much, I'm not very good at it.
Do you eat the pumpkin seeds? If so, do you put any kind of flavoring on it? Here, they are called Pepitas, and yes, I like them. I cheat, though, and buy bags of them at the store.
Are you planning to go to a pumpkin patch this year? No, it's not something I've ever done.
Which was your favorite Halloween costume to wear? The most creative costume I ever wore was a strapless, black velvet party dress (verrry slinky) and my brother-in-laws 6 foot burmese python (yes, alive!) around my neck, shoulders and arm. I went as "beauty and the beast". We went bar-hopping, and everyone either loved, or was scared of, my costume! Ahhh, youth, LOL!
Are you planning to go trick-or-treating? Why or why not? No, it's a kid thing, and my daughter is grown.
Are there any county fairs or festivals held nearby during this time? The biggest fall thing here is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. We're hoping to go to one of the evening "glows" which is where the balloons (hundreds and hundreds of them) stay on the field, but light their burners, so that all the balloons "glow" in the dark. I really want to see that! We'll be able to see the mass ascensions (where all the balloons rise up into the sky at once) from where we live!
What is your favorite dessert for this time of year? Pecan pie, although I've never had a pecan pie as good as my ex used to make (he was a pastry chef while we were married). He used no karo syrup--just sugar, butter, cream, and pecans (lots and lots of pecans) in a homemade crust. OMG, it was to die for.
Is your Thanksgiving Day in October or November, if you even celebrate it? It's the biggest holiday in my family. This year, my in-laws will be here. Mom and Dad were going to come as well, but since they've been out here in New Mexico for my dad's job, they've decided to spend it at home. My Dad will probably take another contract at Los Alamos next year, so hopefully they'll be here for Thanksgiving in 2014.
If you do celebrate it, where do you usually have Thanksgiving dinner? At our house, of course. Hubby is an amazing cook!
Do you remember any crafts you used to do that were autumn-themed? Not a crafty person, unfortunately...
Are any of your favorite bands doing a fall tour this year? Joe Satriani will be here for hubby's birthday, but the tickets were way to dear for us, so we won't be going.
Which new TV show are you looking forward to this season? I'm looking forward to "Reign" on the CW. Yeah, I know, the CW--but how could I resist a show about a young Mary, Queen of Scots?
How does autumn typically make you feel? Happy and content.
What color do you always associate with autumn? Deep reds and golds
Is there a song that always reminds you of this season? Anything from U2's The Joshua Tree for some reason...
Do you have any seasonal traditions? Not really.
Do you spend a lot of time outside during this time of the year? I'm not much of an outdoorsy person.
How can you tell that fall is over? When it starts getting below freezing at night.
What is a typical autumn outfit that you wear? Jeans, a T-shirt, and cozy hoodie.
Describe a perfect autumn day: I love nothing more than to open all the windows, and have a nice nap in the crisp afternoon. That's heaven!
Do you hate it when stores start promoting Christmas early? It really irritates me. I wish we could slow the whole seasonsal thing down a bit, hell, we go from Halloween to Christmas without stopping at Thanksgiving. Not fun.
What is your favorite thing about this season? The cool, crisp air. It's heaven after living in the heat of the South for so long.
