1) In honor of Valentine's Day next week, what's the most romantic movie you can think of?
I'm a sucker for a Cinderella story, so Pretty Woman is incredibly romantic to me. This scene is my favorite :)
2) The Way We Were was a tearjerker. Do you think that most real-life love stories end in heartbreak? Or do you believe in happily ever after?
I don't DISbelieve in happily ever after. I'm skeptical as a rule though, and I'll settle for happy right now.
3) What's your favorite love song?
Pride and Joy, Stevie Ray Vaughn--hubby had this as his ring tone for me forever, which made me melt every time I heard it.
Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughn
Songwriters: GAYE, MARVIN P/STEVENSON, WILLIAM/WHITFIELD, NORMAN J. /
Well you've heard about love givin' sight to the blind
My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine
She's my sweet little thang....
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby....
I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my baby....
Heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thang....
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby....
I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my lady....
She's long and lean
You mess with her....
You'll see a man get mean
She's my sweet little thang....
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby....
I'm her little lover boy
Well I love my baby....
Like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
She's my sweet little thang....
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby....
I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my baby....
Heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thang....
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby....
I'm her little lover boy

4) In 1993, Barbra Streisand married actor James Brolin, who first became famous as Dr. Steven Kiley on Marcus Welby, MD. Who is your favorite TV doctor?
I always did like House, until that last season. I thought he was an asshole, but INTERESTING, nonetheless.
5) In 2012, Streisand renewed her contract with Columbia, where's she's been recording since 1963. So she's been with the same label for fifty years! Where have you worked the longest, and how long was that?
My longest job was at Grand Oaks, a skilled nursing facility in Florida. Being a Navy brat kind of instilled the moving bug in me, so I never worked much more than 3 years in any one spot, until Grand Oaks. I was there almost 10 years. It still amazes me.
6) Sam Winters once worked as a hostess in a chic bistro in Worcester, PA. That's why she frequently gets frustrated by bad service in restaurants -- she's certain she could make it run more smoothly. Where do you find yourself getting annoyed most often?
At work. The work ethic I grew up with doesn't seem to exist anymore, which makes me sad. I can't tell you how many people I've had to fire for just being LATE, over and over and over again. In my business, late is a big deal--we work shifts, and residents depend on us to be on time to get them up, to the dining room, and to provide basic care. When someone on the day shift, for example, is late, the night shift has to stay, costing me overtime, and most importantly, impacting the 10 residents that the day shift person is reponsible for getting up and going for the morning. Can't you tell--it drives me absolutely crazy, and I *WILL* fire your ass (per policy of course) for being late. Watch me. Usually it takes one or two, and then the word gets around and everyone toes the line. But, like I tell my staff--getting fired for being 10 minutes late is the stupidest thing to get fired for in the WORLD.
7) Have you ever taken a polygraph test?
No.
8) Crunchy, smooth or organic peanut butter?
Crunchy.
9) Describe your favorite sweater.
Color blocked gray/fuschia/orange cashmere. I love that sweater!

I admit I'm late almost every morning, but I do it as a protest because, like you, work ethic these days annoy me. We're supposed to start at 9:00. But if no one is going to be available -- if everyone is going to be at Starbucks or congregating in the kitchen, gossiping, I'm not going to be there until 9:45. At least when I show up, I'm ready to work! I also don't leave until 6:00. Don't get me started on when my coworkers start slipping out for the day. Our industry has been hard hit by the Recession, and yet my coworkers seem oblivious to how easily we could all be replaced.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard that song, it is great!
ReplyDeleteHehehe. I think the whole premise of the series "House" is 'hey, check out this asshole that you can't stop watching' :) The show broke my heart after season 5 and I had to stop watching. I get too emotionally involved in the shows I watch because there are so few I enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you on that work ethic thing
ReplyDeleteBeing a fellow nurse, I couldn't agree with more on the work ethic thing that seems to be going on in the world today. It made me so crazy. We had the 10 minute rule policy at the last place I worked....you could clock in ten minutes before to ten minutes after and not be counted late. You know what time they came in?? Yep, 15 to 20 minutes after. I wish you had been our DON. I think it needs to have a hard line approach taken with just a few people to straighten a place out. Keep up the good work.
